Spider-Man returns to Avengers Tower to find the place in ruins, Jarvis roughed up, and a pulsating gateway hovering in the living room. What he finds on the other side is something out of a sci-fi nightmare. The Avengers (Captain America, Iron Man, Spider-Woman, Luke Cage, and Wolverine) and the Astonishing X-Men (Cyclops, Emma Frost, Kitty Pryde, and Colossus) are engaged in an epic struggle against Kang the Conqueror in the middle of World War II.
